Association Introduction

The Iranian Association of Orthodontists is a community of empathy and progress. It is a non-profit scientific organization that was established to facilitate and expedite the affairs of Iranian orthodontists and currently has about 300 members. The first meeting of the Iranian Association of Orthodontists was held on December 9, 1977 at the invitation of Dr. Ali Akbar Bahrman, who was then elected as the first chairman of the Association, and Dr. Parviz Riyaz Davoodi, Dr.Mostafa Mirza Beigi, Dr. Mehdi Farmand, and Dr. Manouchehr Motabei were the first elected members of the Board of Directors for the Iran Association of Orthodontists.

The first meeting of Iranian orthodontic specialists was held on January 8, 1978, at the invitation of Dr. Ali Akbar Bahraman, and Dr. Ali Akbar Bahraman (Chairman), Dr. Parviz Riaz Davoodi, Dr. Mustafa Mirza Beigi, Dr. Mahdi Farahmand and Dr. Manouchehr Matbouie, were chosen as members of the first Board of Directors for the Iran Association of Orthodontists.

The Second Session At the meeting held on January 21, 1982, the need for the formation and restart of the Association of Orthodontists was approved, and by approving the new statute and selecting the members of the Board, the Association resumed its work. The second session, from January 21, 1982 to January 19 1984, consisted of 30 meetings. Board members of the second term were: Dr. Hamid Adeli Najafi, Dr. Parviz Riaz Davoodi, Dr. Bahram Ghasemi, Dr. Keivan Nafisi, and Dr. Mohammad Ghahremani.

After a delay in the activities of the Association, in 1999, the 7th session of the Board of Directors, with the cooperation of Dr. Hossein Ravan Mehr, Dr. Abdul Rahman Shokatbakhsh, Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Ahmad Akhundi, Dr. Mohammad Reza Safavi and Dr. Fariborz Amini, and Dr. Javad Chalipa started its work. During this session, a specialized training course for the Iranian Association of Orthodontists was held in the building of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for three days in September 2000 with the presence of Dr. Marcoti.

The Seventh Session

The Board of Directors of the ninth term, in 2003, with the cooperation of Dr. Ali Mohammad Kalantar Motamedi, Dr. Mohsen Shirazi, Dr. Abdul Rahman Shokatbakhsh, Dr. Javad Chalipa, Dr. Ladan Islamiyan, and Tahereh Hosseinzadeh Nik was formed. In this session, the second congress of the Association in the holy city of Mashhad at the Pardisan Hotel, headed by Dr. Abbasali Sahafian and Dr. Tahereh Jalali (vice-chairman). The third congress of the Association in Isfahan, was directed by Dr. Ali Mohammad Kalantar Motamedi and Dr. Saeed Azarbaijani (vice-chairman) at the Gostaresh Hall of the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.

The Ninth Session

For the first time, the congress of the Iranian Association of Orthodontists was held by the Association itself and its board members. The first congress of Iranian Orthodontists Association was held in Tehran from September 18–20, 2002, in collaboration with the Research Deputy of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The chairman of the congress was Dr. Ali Akbar Bahraman, and the secretary of the congress was Dr. Abdul Rahman Shokatbakhsh. The head of the scientific committee, Dr. Hamid Adeli Najafi and the head of the executive committee was Dr. Massoud Seyfi. The 2nd congress of the Association was held in Mashhad, from July 23–25, 2003, in collaboration with the Research Deputy of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The congress was headed by Dr. Abbas Ali Sahafian and the secretary of the congress was Dr. Tahereh Jalali. The head of the scientific committee, Dr. Mohammad Ba Safa and the head of the executive committee, was Dr. Mehri Zarrin Ghalam. The third congress of the Association was held in Isfahan from November 17–19, 2004, in collaboration with the orthodontics department of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Research Deputy in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. The chairman of the congress was Dr. Ali Mohammad Kalantar Motamedi and the scientific secretary was Dr. Mohammad Reza Javadieh and the executive secretary was Dr. Saeed Azarbayejani.

The fourth congress of the Association was held in Shiraz on November 16–18, 2005, in collaboration with the Orthodontics group of Faculty of Dentistry and Research Deputy of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. The head of the congress was Dr. Hamid Reza Pakshir, and the scientific secretary of the congress, Dr. Zohreh Hedayati and the executive secretary was Dr. Hamid Reza Fattahi. The fifth congress of the Association was held in Tehran from November 15 -17, 2006 in collaboration with the Research Center of the Faculty of Dentistry and Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The congress was led by Dr. Esfandiar Akhavan Niyaki, and the scientific and executive secretaries were Dr. Mohsen Shirazi and Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Ahmad Akhundi.

The head of the scientific committee, Dr. Hossein Ravanmehr and the head of the executive committee was Dr. Elham Ahmadi. And at the same time, orthodontics retraining courses 1 and 2 were also held. The sixth congress of the Association was held in Tehran from January 30 to February 1, 2007, in collaboration with the Sciences Research Center of the Faculty of Dentistry and Research Deputy of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The congress was led by Dr. Parviz Riaz Davoodi, and the secretary was Dr. Bahram Sa’edi. The head of the scientific and executive committees were Dr. Morteza Ordubazari and Dr. Abdul Rahman Shokat. And at the same time, orthodontics retraining courses 1 and 2 were also held.

The 9th period of congress of the Association was held in Mashhad, Iran on May 18–20, 2011 in collaboration with the orthodontics group of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Research Deputy of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The congress was headed by Dr. Mohammad Ba Safa and the secretary of the orthodontics congress was Dr. Majid Ghanbarzadeh. The head of the scientific and executive committees were Dr. Farzin Heravi and Dr. Barat Ali Ramezanzadeh. And at the same time, orthodontics retraining courses 1 and 2 were also held.
